Peter Dulborough

Song of the Boa

Verse 1

I remember when I was 6 years old, I saw a wonderful thing
Inside a beautiful nature book of animals, birds and trees
The picture I saw I can never forget; it really has to be told
The picture was of a boa constrictor swallowing an animal whole

Verse 2

But can you imagine a boa constrictor swallowing an animal whole
An amazing achievement, for how he could manage to swallow it all at one
go?
So taken was I by this picture I saw of this reptile enjoying his lunch
That a boa constrictor I drew for myself …digesting an elephant!

Verse 3

I was proud of my drawing my boa constrictor digesting an elephant whole
That I showed it to both my dear mother and father and asked them ‘so what
have I drawn?’
The answer they gave me when taking a glance, it filled me with great
disappointment
They said :‘what’s that … ‘well it’s clear my dear. What you’ve drawn is a very
big hat!’

Chorus

“A hat … a hat … what else can it be?
A hat … a hat … it’s clear to see!
Stop wasting your time and listen please,
Go and study your maths and geography!”
